Japanese Kombat Car Hear it First by Sean Butze | October 11th, 2007
When considering the edgiest, most crushing new sounds to hit the US underground in the past year, there is no question that Japanese Kombat Car ranks among the best of them—the 5-piece group from Rochester, New York serves up a fierce blend of metal & hardcore brutality that’s capable of rocking the face off of even the most hardened metal-head. Armed with devastating riffs and percussion, matched with chaotic vocals that range from guttural roars to high-pitched screams to bizarre alien-like noises, Japenese Kombat Car are a tough act to beat…even if most don’t know it yet.
In 2005/2006, the band formed after the demise of three other local groups and immediately began recording and performing. So far they have played with a diverse number of acts such Architect, Gaza, and Fjord (to name a few), and have been continually writing new songs. The band has just finished recording their debut EP, which is set to drop sometime around the end of this year or beginning of next. JKC is currently signed to the non-profit label Not So Close Records, but is also actively seeking out something larger.
For a band that formed less than two years ago and has yet to release a single album, Japanese Kombat Car have already managed to gain a significant following in the New York underground scene. Their rapid-growing popularity is most definitely a result of the group’s extraordinary energy and passion for their music, and will undoubtedly carry them far as their career continues to develop.
