Soulwire
Hear it First by Sean Butze | May 13th, 2007

An accomplished songwriter and musician, Ken Hill is the mastermind behind the musical essence that is Soulwire—a solo project that explores the regions of new-age, electronic and instrumental styles in a bold new way. The Nebraska native possesses an unmatched passion for music composition, and has formerly written extensively on the art of songwriting. Using a variety of guitars, keyboards, and electronic effects, Hill crafts deeply emotional, introspective melodies that form the identity of Soulwire, which he says serves as a “musical journal, written from experiences, symbolisms and concepts, reflected in different perspectives.”

One of the most intriguing aspects of Soulwire’s identity is the extremely diverse and atypical sources that Hill claims to be his strongest influences. Citing artists such as Coldplay, Alice in Chains and Linkin Park, as well as various movie and video game soundtracks, one can’t help but be amazed at how such influences have been creatively interpreted into making Soulwire’s original sound. After mere minutes of listening, one will notice that Soulwire is something altogether different indeed. While tags such as new-age, down-tempo or instrumental may be useful in describing Hill’s creations, it undoubtedly must be experienced first-hand to fully grasp.

Although Hill does not usually perform live, Soulwire’s full-length album Rewriting Destiny can be previewed and purchased from his Official Website. Featuring 14 original tracks, the album is a captivating collection of instrumental passages that relax and rejuvenate the mind. Whatever label you choose to assign it, Soulwire is without a doubt a shining example of how music can truly speak from the soul.
