These Orphaned Eyes Hear it First by Sean Butze | June 20th, 2007
These Orphaned Eyes is an experimental rock group from Los Angeles, California that specializes in all things mysterious. Using their music to harness the raw power of emotion and memories, the band is self-described as “nightmares, the forest, loves lost, safety, tears, snow globes, good dreams, loves found & that favorite music box you had when you were oh so little.” But it probably requires seeing one of their live performances to truly understand that description; the quintet intertwines various film clips and other visuals with their music at every show. Indeed it seems that These Orphaned Eyes are not just your average weirdo-band, but an enriched and passionate sensory experience for the body and the mind.
Just a few months ago, the band released their first album I’ve Seen Things: Lost Hills. The disc is a 4-track EP that covers some seriously impressive ground in its own playful way. Dense atmospheres encompass a variety of haunting melodies, aggressive riffs and bizarre sounds—quite an earful for those who aren’t prepared for the group’s stylistic ambitions. At any rate, the album is a fantastic find for any experimental fan, and marks the beginning of what may very well be a long and rewarding career for these creative musicians.
