Ambient electronic post-rock

Monsters Build Mean Robots create music that draws from post-rock as well as from electronic music, blending the two genres together very well with a good use of sound effects that create a mysterious and compelling atmosphere. Not only that, but the patterns they evoke can be quite hypnotic; the swirling textures are eerie and haunting, and when added with the rock elements it gains an aggressive and raw edge. MBMR knows how to create some cool rhythms and patterns, groovy sounds and soundscapes. This is great music to lean back in your seat and day-dream to. It has a calming quality, soothing, and appeasing. Where there are vocals, they are done in a choir-like style, usually high pitched and delicate.

The post rock elements are most obvious in songs like "The Freedom To Fire These Freedom Rockets" and "Shall I Fill With Air?"; the GYBEian and ASMZian sound comes to mind when listening to these. In the other tracks that are more infused with ambient and electronica, other bands like Set Fires To Flames come to mind.

This first effort by this UK band is a promising one that should appeal to fans of post-rock with an added electronica and ambient qualities. Recommended.
